Mars Quicktime Animations

This page contains 160x120 pixel mini versions of Quicktime movies of the Face and other objects discussed in The Martian Enigmas. The 3-D information needed to produce these animations was derived from Viking orbiter imagery using a computer vision technique known as shape from shading. The colorized images were generated from the original (black-and-white) Viking orbiter data using color models derived from Viking lander color imagery. They represent the most realistic renditions of these objects and cannot be obtained from any other source. The features seen in these animations are authentic. Other than colorization, no artistic alteration or enhancement has been performed.
